Whenuakura Island

Whenuakura Island, also known as Donut Island or Doughnut Island, is located approximately 600m offshore.

Whenuakura Wildlife Sanctuary is a geographically unique and historically significant site — once home to the native Tuatara.

The island’s distinctive shape was formed by ocean erosion, creating a stunning lagoon accessible through a natural opening in the rock.

Our Donut Island kayak trips operate daily, all year round.

Please Visit Whenuakura Island Responsibly

  • 🚫 Land access to the island is prohibited — please respect its status as a wildlife sanctuary.

  • 🛶 Remain in your kayak when visiting.

  • 🦺 Safety equipment must be worn at all times.
