General Bookings

Do I need any experience to hire gear or join a trip?
Not at all! Our hires are designed for all levels — beginners are welcome. We’ll give you a quick safety and technique briefing before you head out.

Do I need to book in advance?
We recommend booking ahead, especially during weekends, holidays, and summer months. Walk-ins are welcome when gear is available.

What time should I arrive for my booking?
Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled start time for a safety briefing and gear check.

What should I bring with me?
Wear swimwear or comfortable activewear, bring sunscreen, a towel, a hat, and water. We’ll provide all the safety gear and equipment.

Kayak & SUP Hires

Can I visit Donut Island (Whenuakura Island)?
Yes — our self-guided Donut Island kayak hires operate daily, weather permitting. Please remember to stay in your kayak and do not land on the island to protect the wildlife sanctuary.

Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes. For everyone’s safety, all participants must be confident swimmers before hiring kayaks or SUPs.

Is it safe to paddle to Donut Island?
Conditions can change quickly. We only allow Donut Island hires when the weather and sea state are safe. Our team will brief you and check the conditions before every trip.

What’s included in the hire price?
All safety gear (lifejackets, dry bags), a short safety briefing, a route map, and local advice.

Bike, MURF & Beach Bugz Hires

 

Are helmets provided for bikes and MURFs?
Absolutely — all safety gear is included in the hire price.

Where can we ride?
We’ll provide suggested trails and scenic routes nearby. Always follow local road and beach access rules.

Weather, Cancellations & Safety

What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety is our top priority. If conditions aren’t suitable, we’ll contact you to reschedule or issue a full refund.

What if I need to cancel my booking?
Cancellations made [X hours/days] before your booking are eligible for a full refund. Late cancellations may incur a small fee — see our Terms & Conditions for details.

Is there an age limit?
Generally, ages 8+ for kayaking and 14+ for solo bike or MURF hires. Children must always be accompanied by an adult.

Do you provide guided tours?
No however - We specialise in self-guided adventures, but our team is always available for route tips, safety advice, and gear support.

There is an inherent amount of risk involved in all outdoor activities at Pedal and Paddle, including the risk of serious harm.  The staff and management of Pedal and Paddle will take all steps as far as is reasonably practicable to identify and manage these risks and potential hazards through sound practice and policies.
